After a fairly long alpha phase, Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator comes to playtest on Steam. We finally discover a tiny part of the gameplay which consists of sneaking into the bowels of the infamous Pripyat nuclear power plant.
[EDIT: The video broadcasting embargo has finally been extended at the last minute by the developers, the above video will be unblocked when it is lifted. Too bad… especially since the opinion was rather positive…]
The demo puts you in the shoes of a liquidator, those courageous people who sacrificed their lives on the very day of the explosion in an attempt to limit the scale of the disaster. As the development team specifies, "no monster or mutant", the game tries to get closer to reality as it was experienced. From there to putting the term "Simulator", there was only one step, which the publisher PlayWay took without scruple. It's such a salesperson. But make no mistake, Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator only has a simulator in name and remains a game a little apart, between Urbex, labyrinth, adventure ...
Equipped with a makeshift fire extinguisher, a gas mask, and a shovel, you will have to follow a well-traced linear progression, but remain fairly free in your movements. The demo is very small and the game in final version should go further in equipment, places to visit, missions, and even the choice of characters. In short, we keep an eye on it. Graphically, the developers use the Unity engine rather well, which displays quite striking graphic effects, without being resource-intensive. No release date announced for the moment.
